Soda AshSoda Ash, commonly known as sodium carbonate, is an alkali chemical processed from trona or naturally occurring sodium carbonate-bearing brines, the mineral nahcolite, or produced by a variety of chemical processes. To make soda ash from trona ore, a number of refinement processes are necessary. The raw ore of mine is crushed and filtered first. After that, the material is roasted in rotary calciners. The trona decomposes into crude soda ash, which is dissolved in water throughout this process. By combining settling and filtering stages, the insoluble shales are removed from the solution, and the insoluble tailings are returned to the mine as backfill.
